Packaging Buyer - Chatsworth, CA

Summary The packaging Buyer is responsible for purchasing and on-time delivery of packaging components from our current vendor base. Activities performed will be associated with ordering and delivery of quality products and service, keeping open and timely communication, meeting cost objectives and supporting business growth. This position also supports sourcing initiatives and strategies. Essential Responsibilities: • Purchase packaging components- prompt PO placement, on time confirmation of delivery dates, and follow up • Maintain purchasing data records (quotations, purchaser orders, price lists, contracts, ETC) • Build and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers • Evaluate vendor performance and make recommendations to team • Manage the vendor qualification process of obtaining required documentation • Review and analyze bid proposals (RFQs) based on quality, service and pricing criteria • Drive supplier related cost savings for the company following market trends • Supply vendors with periodic forecasts • Development, implement and maintain processes with planning department that are consistent with corporate policy and which ensure timely delivery of goals that meet company quality, cost, and specification requirements • Resolve receiving and invoice discrepancies with vendors • Provide Receiving Department with purchase order information as necessary (PO number, vendor, approval of quantities • Resolve rejections and coordinate replacement of rejected goods per company procedures • Source/Coordinate with supplies to provide samples and prices for different product options to present to New Products team. • Track monthly accomplishments, goals and cost savings within area of responsibilities Supplementary Responsibilities: Back up Buyers and support Operations team as needed Represent company at industry events Perform other duties as directed by management Judgement: Employee uses professional knowledge of buying and planning to perform the job duties required. Employee possess a high level of decision-making ability. Employee has the ability to assess vendor capabilities objectively and fairly in support of corporate objectives. Employee has the ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Communication and interface The employee has the ability to communicate and interface with individuals and departments internally and externally in a clear, professional and effective manner consistently whether in verbal or written forms. Requirements: College Degree holder Minimum of 3-5 years purchasing and /or planning experience Excellent written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills Computer skills- MS word Excel and power point Must be able to manage a high volume of e-mails and respond immediately approximately 95% Of the time and within 48 hours the rest of the time Working Knowledge of MRP systems, SAP preferred Must be able to work in the fast pace environment Results- oriented indivisual able to source e, negotiate and execute purchases as assigned Excellent contract negotiation skills Ability to plan coordinate and manage multiple projects Must be able to travel( Approximately 5% annually) Physical Requirement Must be able to sit for up to 8 hours per day, work on the computer, perform light lifting ( up to 25lbs) ale to move between floors and locations in the building.
