Combination Technician Apprentice - High Island, TX

Advantage Resourcing is currently seeking highly motivated individuals for a Field Communication Technician for the High Island, TX area with a very well established Communications Company.

  • The Communication Technician performs required work in the construction, maintenance, operation, installation, and servicing of telephone and video lines, instruments, and related equipment. The Communication Technician is generally responsible for all aspects of exchange operations, and knowledgeable in test instruments.

    The Communication Technician will execute company mission by fulfilling these essential functions:
     
  • Responds to service orders for installations, troubles, upgrades, removals, or changes to a customer's residential or business telephone or video service and equipment. This also includes all key systems and ISDN, Internet, Wireless, FTTH, and DSL wireless services
  • Maintains residential, and business services, which includes telephone, video, ISDN, Internet, wireless, DSL, FTTH, and all types of key systems, from customer trouble reports
  • Ensures all FCC video tests are completed on time and files written test results with the Installation/Repair supervisor
  • Tests video plant and head-end items, reports unsatisfactory plant conditions and conducts video head-end repairs as needed
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains customer and business carrier systems, voice frequency repeaters, and all associated equipment
  • Installs grounding protection from unwanted electrical surges.
  • Ensures that all work orders and trouble tickets assigned to him/her are closed out daily
  • Maintains time sheets and vehicle records
  • Records proper readings of signal level, loop, loss, noise, and power influence on installed and reported trouble lines
  • Uses test sets to localize troubles, determine necessary repairs, and makes changes of cable pairs as needed
  • Obtains easements and knows RUS, NEC, and other industry specifications or instructional material required to accomplish the job
  • Submits sketches and measurements and makes staking sheets when assigned
  • Tests telephone plant items, reports unsatisfactory conditions, and conducts minor central office repairs as needed
  • Responsible for accepting special projects as needed
  • Understanding and strictly adhering to the Company's Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) policy while appropriately maintaining the confidentiality of customer records
  • Understanding how all departments contribute to the success of the organization and referring customers and employees to the appropriate department to best fulfill their needs
  • Building and maintaining a good rapport and cooperative relationship with customers and co-workers while taking ownership of responsibilities and being accountable for his/her own actions
  • Being an advocate for Company programs and special events while taking initiative to participate and volunteering readily when opportunities arise
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities assigned

    Education and Experience
    - High school diploma or equivalent
    - Previous work experience (preferred)

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge of all aspects of the telephony and video fields of installation and repair
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and electronic circuitry
  • Knowledge of FCC requirements
  • Knowledge of and the ability to comply with CPNI regulations and procedures
  • Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches and the ability to function effectively as a team player
  • Proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.

    Work Environment
    ·         Must have valid driver’s license
    ·         Perform on-call duties when scheduled
    ·         Work frequently in cramped work spaces
     
    Safety Requirements
    The Communication Technician must be thoroughly versed in all company safety and risk management policies. The Communication Technician must also be an advocate for company safety programs & HR Policy & Procedure, have and maintain a good driving record and thoroughly understand his/her role in enforcing safety protocols.
