Advantage Resourcing is recruiting for Instructional Assists to work in Columbia, Woodstock and Danielson. These are DIRECT HIRE positions.
To provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing special education students' success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living. To supervise students within the classroom and other assigned areas. To assist in the development of lesson plans and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines. To collaborate with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responds to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress. To respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. To respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction. To implement established curriculum and/or individual student plans. To adapt classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans. To administer developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans. To assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor development and communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, educators and administration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: Such as may have been gained through: Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related area; and, Experience: Such as may have been gained through: At least one-year of paid/volunteer experience working with children in an organized setting. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: At the time of appointment must: 1. Possess a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the teaching assignment or be DSAP eligible 2. Successfully pass a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance 3. Within six (6) months of appointment, must complete PMT – Physical Management Techniques training. 4. Within one (1) year of appointment, must complete and maintain certification for First Aid and CPR training.
