Facilities Design and Drafting Designer 

We are currently seeking a Facilities Design and Drafting Designer for a 6+ month contractual opportunity with our client in Salt Lake City, UT. The qualified candidate will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and/or updating facility and pipeline appurtenance drawings and data in support of major and tactical Engineering & Construction (E&C) projects and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) as necessary, to comply with company and requirements, governmental requirements from Occupational Safety & Health Administrations (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM), DOTs Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, etc. and industry standards. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing technical support, designs, and drawings for complex projects
  • Creates or Audits designs for compression facilities, pipeline appurtenances and all other related facilities based on scope requirements provided by internal business partners
  • Prepares working plans and detail drawings according to standards and specifications
  • Ensures accurate, timely, and efficient design and delivery of drawings from conception to as-built state and continued maintenance and updates afterwards
  • Review and verify that plans and design drawings conform to applicable codes, standards, specifications and project requirements
  • Supports and assists Operations & Maintenance (O&M) projects in complying with company standards and requirements, governmental requirements, and industry standards
  • Assists Project Managers and Engineers with new projects by providing technical design support, drafting support or coordination of design and drafting with outside contractors; ensures delivery of contractor packages that include applicable pipeline design and drafting standards, processes, procedures, templates, libraries, tools, and examples to be utilized for E&C, Tactical, and O&M Enhancement projects
  • Assists Design Leads, Supervisors, Project Managers and Engineers with scope, schedule and budget definition for new projects requiring design and drafting activities
  • Performs facility as-built walk-downs to develop, update and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), Facility Plot Plans, Electrical Hazardous Area Classification Plans, Electrical One Line diagrams, Emergency Operating Procedure drawings, Cause and Effect Matrix and other drawings that may be required. 


  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Design and Drafting Technology or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of (5) years of drafting experience with 2+ of those years focused on independent design assignments in the energy or chemical industry with verifiable and relative design experience
  • Experience working for an oil and gas, pipeline or midstream owner / operating company is preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully executing design projects within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Knowledge of the operational & field environment for work practices and conditions, in process plants, gathering systems, pipelines, and chemical plants
  • Knowledge of sound engineering principles and industry standards as they apply to design, construction and operations of Pipelines, Plants, Stations and other facilities
  • Solid design and drafting knowledge and ability in Piping/Mechanical or Civil/Structural Design
  • Knowledge of accepted design drafting practices and presentations of compression stations, meter stations, valve sites, pump stations, underground piping, pipeline appurtenances, etc. is strongly preferred
  • Verifiable knowledge and physical ability in field investigation / walk-downs, design, layout, and drafting of Pipelines
  • Thorough knowledge and ability in the use of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Compatible software such as CADWorx Plant and CADWorx P&ID
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.) and other administrative applications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence others and develop strong internal and external relationships
  • Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues on multiple assignments
  • Strong team skills complemented with a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% (supporting the Green River, WY area as well)
  • Natural gas experience is preferred.
