Position : Engineering Lab Technician

Location : Mountain View CA

Duration : 1 year contract with extension.

Lab Hours: Candidates must be able to work within these hours for coverage: 9:30AM to 6:00PM

The Reliability Lab conducts mechanical and environmental testing to demonstrate the reliability of products and materials across the Alphabet line of hardware.
Hardware Test Engineers in the lab work closely with product teams and other cross-functional teams to highlight failures which drive corrective actions within the products and company.
As a Hardware Test Engineer, you will work closely with the engineering team in support of Reliability, R&D, product development, and production.
You will use state of the art equipment and techniques to test the reliability of products and materials.

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:

1. Follow established reliability test procedures and perform various environmental and mechanical reliability testing, photographic documentation of test setup and results, and report generation.

2. Set up and run test equipment (Instron tensile/compression system, Optical/digital microscope, Environmental chambers, Corrosion chambers)

3. Record, analyze, and report test results using spreadsheets and charts.

Other Responsibilities include:

*Perform mechanical testing including shock and vibration, surface durability, material characterization (tensile, compression, etc.) using a load frame, drop testing and tumble testing
*Operate thermal chambers for temperature and humidity testing
*Program axial robots *Provide timely updates on testing progress
*Responsible for several tests / products throughout the development life cycle
*Responsible for safe operation of test setups *Document work performed via post test reports


1+ years of experience Mechanical Testing on hardware in lad environment.
2-4 years of experience in a testing lab or manufacturing with mechanical and electrical component / system testing
Experience with laboratory equipment, sample preparation, and general lab processes
Use of Environmental Chambers Familiarity with Mechanical Shock testers
Experience with chemical testing
Experience operating and troubleshooting electronic equipment in a lab environment including: to power test systems to monitor performance and for failure
Understand the physics behind the mechanical & electrical properties of materials
Strong computer skills
Proficient with Google Docs Spreadsheet and presentation familiarity
Able and willing to do repetitive tasks
Able to work alone and with a group Strong attention to detail
Good verbal and written communication skills dealing with internal and external customers


B.S. in an engineering field preferred Matlab LabView Solid Works or other solid modeling (CAD) package Knowledge of load cells, strain gauges, accelerometers and data acquisition systems
