Injection Molding Process Engineer/Technician
The Mold Development Engineering is searching for a diversely experienced Injection Molding Process Engineer/Technician to execute test runs, create robust scientific molding processes and troubleshoot new injection molds being procured for production and prototype use.
We are looking for someone who has dedicated their career to injection mold processing, has many years of experience in the field, and wants to continue in this career field within a highly diverse and challenging environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with many types of tooling and resin types. This includes tooling with complex movement, fragile components, multi-shot, and other challenging mold types and engineering grade resins, especially high
temp resins such as Ultem, PESU, and PEEK.
The candidate should be experienced and well versed in the field of running very tight tolerance, high end SPI Class 101 molds.
Mold Development Engineering is a collaborative team working environment, and this candidate will be involved in many different levels of communication and activities related to our process.
Heavy mold processing experience is a requirement for this role.
We are not looking for someone who knows what a mold is, but rather someone who knows molding and molds like the back of their hand.
Scope of Position
Provide technical support for injection molding process development and improvement across the division
Lead or support new equipment-based technology introductions and transfers
Drive equipment standards development and implementation plans
Lead or support the implementation of strategic electronic manufacturing support systems
Drive standardization of best molding process-related practices across the division for injection molding operations
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Test run molds in various stages of development, provide feedback of mold performance to Mold Development Engineers, assist in troubleshooting and resolution
Create and document molding process recipes for a broad range of product types and material types, including many high temp engineering grade resins
Provide process optimization and control on new and released product, focusing on top divisional improvement projects. Support through change management systems.
Support or lead introduction and transfer projects.
Define equipment requirements and standards across sites and develop plans for implementation to standard, including leading and executing equipment life cycle management plans.
Work closely with Mold Development to ensure tooling solutions meet asset life requirements, meet or exceed cycle time targets, and minimize material usage.
Ensure process capability is documented and maintained for long term production performance.
Develop and provide periodic training courses for Product Engineering and Process Manufacturing Engineering on resins, machine processing, and mold development.
Provide DFM part analysis for new product introduction as it relates to equipment capabilities and material selection.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Desired Education / Certification:
BS in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or equivalent preferred
Master Molder Certification or equivalent
Candidates with strong mold processing backgrounds without a 4-year degree or other certifications may be considered on a case by case basis
5+ years of injection mold processing and comprehensive understanding of engineering resins
3+ years of plastic product and assembly design
Mold set-up and processing proficiency
Fundamental knowledge of injection mold tooling
Thorough understanding of injection mold processing parameters and applications (cause and effect)
Ability to troubleshoot with advanced problem-solving tools
Strong project management capability
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to lead or participate in cross-functional teams
Ability to travel (domestic and international, ~ 25%)
Ability to utilize all MS Office applications
Mold flow technology
Thorough knowledge of secondary assembly and decorating processes
Familiarity with automation processes
3D CAD software
Knowledge of tool steels and metallurgical properties
Ability to operate machine tools
