Process Specialist - Auburn Hills, MI

Job Description:

the Process Specialist is in charge of supporting processes development, improvement, and deployment:

  • Support product engineering in product development by providing feedback on design for manufacturing
  • Provide early assessment to acquisition team detailing equipment, tooling and hours needed for a given product
  • Develop MTM studies, Process Flow, PFMEA, and other core documentation upon program award
  • Write equipment specifications based on previous core documentation, group standards, and lessons learned
  • Support purchasing department in request for quotation from suppliers
  • Drive supplier through design, build, installation, and commissioning following standard check sheets
  • Ensure supplier stays on time to commitment using a Gantt chart for reference
  • Actively track and drive compliance to equipment budget – push supplier for best cost ECR’s when necessary
  • Participate in program ECR evaluations ensuring correct turnaround time and best case cost and timing
  • Perform ongoing compliance checks to systems using our knowledge data management tools
  • Validate all equipment poka yokes are considered and installed using a miss-use check
  • Ensure equipment is safe to operate by applying internal and external safety reviews during design and after installation
  • Ensure equipment is ergonomically compliant by application of ergonomics standards and by evaluation with specialists
  • Drive setup of equipment with proof of cycle time and product capability key deliverables
  • Participate on cross functional team delivering the process securization – combination of KPC, Process Assessment, Capability Check and PFMEA evaluation
  • Complete all supporting documentation in order to hand over equipment to serial production
  • Deliver all spare parts and maintenance guidelines to the plant
  • Develop a network with other process engineers in the same region and field



Minimum education level:  Bachelor's or Master’s degree in engineering



  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the Automotive industry
  • Experience launching new equipment is mandatory

Skills & Competencies:

  • Fixture design and troubleshooting
  • Able to read and understand GD&T
  • Understanding of quality metrics such as capability and R&R
  • Experience with fastening systems such as Atlas Copco is required
  • Experience with riveting or forming systems is an asset
  • High level understanding of control systems (PLC or PC based) is required
  • Experienced developing equipment documentation, operator instructions, FMEA, TPM (Total Preventive Maintenance), PSR (Process Securization Rate)
  • Proven technical skills on process and product, in his/her field of competencies
  • Strong communication skills, ability to structure and capitalize know-how
  • Networking capabilities
  • International mindset
